Postdoc (m/w)

with focus on tumor-immunology

half-time, for three years

We focus on analyzing the molecular and cellular mechanisms responsible for the failure of adequate immune response to control EBV-associated and EBV-negative Hodgkin Disease (HD) in children. There is growing evidence that defects in T cell immunity may promote both the development of chronic viral infections and potentially also malignancies. We hypothesize that yet unknown, mild defects in T cell immunity may be involved in the evolution of EBV+ HD. A major goal is to assess changes in T cell immunity of HD patients that occur disease or EBV-associated in order to identify risk patients and develop new treatment strategies in these patients. To address these questions we are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate with strong experience in immunology and interest in working on a cross-disciplinary project combining tumor biological and immunological research on a medically highly relevant topic.

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in immunology, biology or related field with an excellent publication record
  • Very strong background and hands-on experience with in vitro and in vivo immunological experiments
  • Solid experience in state-of-the-art cell and molecular biology techniques (particularly FACS, functional assays and mouse models)
  • Profound knowledge in immunology (innate and adaptive)
  • Sound knowledge of tumor biology and in vivo cancer models are highly desirable
  • The candidate works accurately, is able to conduct independent research, but also enjoys working in an interdisciplinary environment. He/She is willing to advise junior staff
  • Good presentation skills and experience in project management (importance of scheduling, deliverables, reporting) will be highly valued
  • Fluency in English language (written and spoken) is mandatory, proficiency in German would be a plus

We offer

  • an interesting and ambitious job in a vibrant medical and research environment
  • support with apartment-hunting, job tickets, parking space, child care etc.
  • a position that is limited to 3 years.
  • a position that is 50% part-time (TV-L E13).

The position is remunerated on the TV-L salary scale. Preference will be given to disabled applicants with equal qualifications (please, indicate disablement in your application).
